About

Dr. Mitchell is a board-certified radiation oncologist with 14 years of clinical practice experience. His clinical expertise includes utilization of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Image-Guided and Adaptive Radiotherapy for all types of malignant and benign tumors, with special interest in lung cancer, head and neck cancer, and brain tumors. Dr. Mitchell earned a BS with major in physics and minor in mathematics from the US Air Force Academy. He then received his MD from Tulane University School of Medicine and completed an internship in internal medicine and residency in radiation oncology at New York University Langone Medical Center. He has been board certified in radiation oncology since 2009.

Dr. Mitchell was a US Air Force active-duty radiation oncologist for 9 years where he attained the rank of Lt Col, was director of two oncology departments, and cared for military retirees, veterans, and active-duty members and their families along the Gulf Coast and Northern California regions. He was the site Principal Investigator for clinical trials through the Radiation Therapy and Oncology Group (RTOG), and published research on utilizing digital processes to ensure patient safety and quality of care.

Following military service, Dr. Mitchell founded medical technology startup Oncodisc, Inc., to develop a platform for remote cancer care and oncology risk management. Oncodisc was awarded a National Science Foundation SBIR grant with Dr. Mitchell as principal investigator, and the company completed the UCSF Rosenman Institute and MedTech Innovator accelerator programs. In 2021 Oncodisc was acquired by Veris Health where Dr. Mitchell continues technology development as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Mitchell is a named inventor on over 10 patents and patent applications, and he has published multiple research papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Dr. Mitchell was named UCSF Rosenman Institute Healthtech Leader of the Month in March 2022.

Outside medicine and technology development, Dr. Mitchell enjoys time with his wife and three kids. He can be found as a volunteer belayer at rock climbing competitions or coaching soccer and baseball while cheering on his kids.
