About

Ari Umutyan, MD, medical oncologist and a long-time Napa County physician who is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in medical oncology, has joined the Martin-O’Neil Cancer Center as medical director.

Bringing more than a decade of cancer-fighting expertise to his practice, Dr. Umutyan provides comprehensive and compassionate cancer care, including the diagnosis and treatment of breast and lung cancers, malignant hematologic conditions such as lymphoma and leukemia, as well as non-malignant blood concerns. He has lived in different parts of Europe and is fluent in English, Armenian, German and Turkish, which has formed the foundation for a unique and culturally-sensitive approach to patient care.

He is dedicated to educating patients about their condition in order to inspire a greater understanding and involvement in their care. After growing up in different parts of Europe, Dr. Umutyan completed his undergraduate studies at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. He received his medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles, Calif. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where he also served as an internal medicine chief resident for one year while exploring his passion for teaching. He completed his fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at the University of California Davis Medical Center.

When Dr. Umutyan is not seeing patients, he enjoys road biking, long-distance running, soccer refereeing, skiing and spending time with family.
